Forklifts are one of the most common means of transporting materials on a
construction site. More than one million forklifts are currently in use in the
United States. While forklifts certainly help get jobs done, they
sometimes cause serious injuries or death. Many fatalities occur when operators are thrown from forklifts due to inadequate rollover protection (ROP) or if safety restraints are not used or available.
According to the Bureau of Labor
Statistics, 95,000 workers are injured in forklift accidents, each year. More than 20,000 of these accidents involve serious injury. On average, 100 people die
in forklift accidents annually. These statistics show just how dangerous forklifts and powered vehicles can be to their operators and those around them.
